Celebrate the moment London takes up the Olympic flag at Hackney Handover happening at the Shoreditch Festival!

Sunday, 24 August marks the beginning of London’s journey as the host city for the 2012 Games.  Hackney welcomes the Games with events for everyone to enjoy in Hoxton Street and Shoreditch Park. 

From 1pm the Festival hosts a 1948-themed street party on Hoxton Street looking back to the last time the Games came to our capital. In Shoreditch Park watch live dance and entertainment on the main stage, take part in sport and cultural activities throughout the day. Lift will unveil its special Hackney Handover Day art commission – Shoreditch Ball Park.

As a fitting finale to the Festival, BBC Big Band arrives for the Ugly Bugs Ball - a new youth musical on the main stage, swing on by at 6pm
